State holidays, public holidays, memorable and festive dates are set by the President of the Republic of Belarus. Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus No. 157 dated March 26, 1998 "On State holidays, public holidays and memorable dates in the Republic of Belarus" is currently in force.

In accordance with the amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus adopted at the national referendum on February 27, 2022, the All-Belarusian National Assembly establishes state and public holidays.

State holidays are established to commemorate events of special historical or socio-political significance for the Republic of Belarus, which had a significant impact on the development of the Belarusian state and society.

Public holidays are established to commemorate other events dedicated to traditional dates, honoring employees of a particular profession, branch of the economy or field of activity, etc.

Memorable dates are associated with other historical events in the life of the state and society, or are traditionally celebrated by certain categories of citizens.
